51 Navy Yard Vulcan Switcher (1956 - 1957) |
---|
About This Motorized Unit
The 51 Navy Yard Switcher was introduced by Lionel in 1956 and was only sold for two years (through 1957). This "2-4-2" motorized unit came with an unpainted blue plastic cab and was decorated with white heat-stamped lettering (including the words "NEW YORK" below "NAVY YARD" under the windows). An ornamental bell, black metal handrails on each side plus the front and rear further served to dress this unit.

Additional Details
This switcher came with two operating couplers and was designed to be used in a railroad yard to move rolling stock around. It has a small motor and should only be used to pull two or three light cars. Care should also be given to how this item is handled as the fragile window struts are easily broken.
